2022 would have been Jorge Zalszupin’s 100th birthday. On this occasion, Gokelaere & Robinson has chosen to pay tribute to the immense legacy he left in the world of interior design by curating a dedicated exhibition at the Woning Van Wassenhove, a modernist villa designed by Belgian architect Juliaan Lampens. 

Although having traveled very little, and living in two different hemispheres, Juliaan Lampens and Jorge Zalszupin have developed an approach to design and architecture nourished by common influences and a shared vision of the art of living. These two architect-designers radically transformed our way of life in the 1960s. They shared the same fascination for the work of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. Juliaan Lampens was very early on influenced by photos, plans and sections of the Pampulha Modern ensemble in Belo Horizonte designed by Niemeyer. Jorge Zalszupin was directly involved in the conception and production of furniture for the new federal capital Brasilia under the command of Niemeyer himself, the Palácio da Alvorada remaining one of his greatest known inspirations. 

The Woning Van Wassenhove with its dual interior / exterior design of a closed bunker from one side and transparent openness to nature on the other side, offers a shelter, a moment of pause, a space for meditation and reflection to its residents. It is with this in mind that the Woning Van Wassenhove embodies the ideal place to transcend time and reconnect you with some of the most iconic works produced by design master Jorge Zalszupin. 

This exhibition is also an opportunity to re-discover the pieces of furniture designed by Juliaan Lampens, created especially for the house.
